Participants were splint into three groups and discussed a series of issues dealing with conducting WPF studies and data interpretation independently. There was general agreement among the participants on the key issues that needed to be included in a study design and recommendations for reporting data.

The importance of conducting workplace protection factor studies with minimal adherence to the suggested data elements is illustrated by several recent articles that deal with respirator performance. A study by Myers et.al. had the required information and can be used to estimate respirator performance. While a study by Spear et. al. lacks several data elements. The lack of data elements makes the study difficult to interpret, the information from the research cannot be used to estimate respirator performance.
