Measures against PCDDs in Waste Incineration Facilities

for Repair Works

ABSTRACT

 

The outline of the repair work of a municipal waste incineration plant located in Fukushima Prefecture is reviewed.   This plant was built in March, 1988 and the waste incineration capacity was 70 tons/day.  

 

The repair work (Started in December 2000 and ended in March 2002.  The main item of the repair work was the waste gas treatment apparatus.   The other relevant items were also included.  This work costed a hundred million yen.   The program for the protection of workers from dioxin exposure in the repair work was consisted of the following items.

  Workplace environment measurements

  Build-up of instant waste disposal settlement

  Wetting of the emission source of dioxin

  Use of PPE

  Treatment and disposal of repair work waste
