Test Methods of Gas Masks and Particulate Respirators in Compliance with the Japanese Standards | The Japanese standards for gas masks and particulate respirators prescribe test methods as well as the functional criteria of the respirators. In the revision of the standards issued in 2000, some of the test methods were changed from the previous ones, from the viewpoint of better evaluation of the functions of respirators and also of international harmonization. The test methods for particle filtration efficiencies of filters and gas removing capacities of canisters and cartridges are similar to those of the American and European test methods in principle, with the only differences being in the test conditions. However some of the other tests are performed with instruments designed in compliance with the requirements of the Japanese standards, which are not found in foreign countries or districts. We present some of the Japanese test methods with the requirements of the Standards, including the methods for carbon dioxide concentration increase in inspired air, the air-tightness of a facepiece, the air-tightness of an exhalation valve at work, and the inhalation resistance of wetted disposable type dust respirators by humidification. |
